deusexmechanic | Video - Backdated to the end of the flood!

[There's a click, as the audio feature starts up.

The footage itself is of your friendly neighborhood egotist and his still mongoose inmate. Harper is sat on the floor, and dangling a piece of string over Rex's head for the little guy to play with. It's actually a weirdly touching scene, Rex seems happy, and Harper seems like he's genuinely enjoying his inmates company for once.

Rex rolls onto his back and swipes at the string with his paws, trying to maneuver it into his mouth, but Harper pulls it to just out of reach, before dangling it back down. Finally, Rex snatches the string out of his wardens hands and tearing into it with his little mongoose teeth.

Then, in an instant, the flood ends.

Oh Rex. Oh, naked, mouth full of string, lying on the floor Rex.

Your Warden is now laughing so hard that he can't breathe.]

[Horrified pause, then he slooooowly removes the string from his mouth, looks down, look at the camera, looks down again, and screams:] HARPER!!!

[AND HE SNATCHES AT THE COMMUNICATOR TO TURN IT OFF.]

[Harper is laughing too hard to try and stop Rex. He takes a couple of deep breaths and tries to compose himself.]

C-C'mon, Rex, don't be like that...

[Snerk. Oh god, he's trying so hard to reign in his amusement at this.]

I have something right here that'll cheer you up!

[He grabs the remainder of the ball of string that he cut the bit you were playing with off of, and holds it up temptingly. Then collapses into laughter again.]

[Damn you, Harper. The residual mongoose tendencies in him make his eyes follow the string, and he looks at it VERY INTENTLY for a moment, then glares at Harper and lunges at him. GOIN' FOR THE CHOKING.

He really needs pants]

[Oh man, Harper wasn't expecting you to actually WANT the string! So congratulations, when you charge him to get your strangle on, he's at the disadvantage of LAUGHING UNCONTROLLABLY. This changes, of course, when your hands are around his neck.

Since, generally, anyone trying to strangle Harper is a good two feet taller than him, having someone grab his neck is usually a precursor for him being lifted off the floor, and choked by his own weight. Unfortunately for you, Rex, this means he's developed a very specific defense against being strangled.

Pretty much the minute Rex gets his hands around Harpers neck, he starts clawing to get them off, and wraps both his legs around his inmates waist, bracing against him automatically.]

[WHAT IS THIS, HARPER IS MOLESTING HIM AHHH BAD TOUCH. Rex lets go immediately and jerks away.]

What the hell, Harper?

[Pause. Oh, he's still naked. Much like he did earlier as a mongoose, Rex zooms to cover himself with a blanket.]

Pants. Now.

Hey, you grabbed me! It's a reflexive reaction.

[Pause. Grimace. Harper holds up a hand, feeling the need to clarify.]

Not to you jumping on me naked, I might add.

[But, because your Warden is SO CARING AND SO LOVING, he gets up and starts rooting around for a pair of pants for you, shooting Rex a dirty look as he does so.]

Don't get your junk on my blanket.

[He frowns.]

You put me in a cage.

[THIS IS MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THAN HIS JUNK ON HARPER'S BLANKET.]

[Harper explains irritably. Then backtracks, as he continues to seek pants for his inmate.]

Besides, you were all agitated. What if you'd run off and gotten eaten? OR, if you ran through a mousehole, the flood ended, and you got crushed to death when you turned back to your normal size? At least I knew you'd break the cage if that happened.

[Oh hey, found some pants! Harper tosses them to Rex]

[And thus, it was deserved. Rex catches the pants, dropping the blanket in the process, but pffth, it's not like Harper hasn't seen it all by now. Pants on.]

I wouldn't have done anything like that. It would have been... irrational. You just thought it would be funny!

[Even saying that makes Harper sorta smirk a bit. But he's strong. He doesn't laugh. Instead, he quirks an eyebrow.]

Yeah, because you were the very peak of rationality this flood. I could totally tell.

[Arms crossing now. Should he push his luck and ask for a shirt? Ugh, he'd be dressed like Harper then.]

I still retained my mind, unlike the others. You had no right to put me in a cage.

[Harper looks genuinely upset at that latest comment.]

Oh man, I'm really sorry, Rex. I genuinely thought you were goin' all mongoose minded on me.

[He looks down a little guiltily, then glances back up to you]

Look, I know this doesn't make up for it... but... look, let me give you something. I know now, how badly you wanted this.

[He picks the string back up, and offers it to you, sympathetically.

Only now he's laughing again.]

[Well, Rex was partially going mongoose-minded, but he'll never admit-- STRING. He goes perfectly still, giving it a long stare, then shakes his head and glares at Harper.]

[Harper is still laughing, as he un-loops a bit of the string and gives it a little toss into the air, letting it swing around a little.]
